Artistic statement:
I have painted the landscape for many years. I reached a point that I could pretty well reproduce a fair semblance of the natural world, and it became too predictable, and too tight. And I found the process a bit tedious, as though I had become a human copying machine. There didn't to be much point to it. The work sold well, but I have never been in art to make money. That has always been low on my scale of priorities. I always painted for the pure love of the work, and that seemed to be evading me.The situation changed when I started abstracting more, using bigger brushes, painting more swiftly, and getting more painterly with the landscape. The joy of the painting process returned. I had found my direction, and I've never looked back. There is again a vitality to the work, and I find myself eagerly looking forward to painting every day.
